Wow…Better than Britney…

I think I’m in love…

Britney Spears is no where NEAR this hot!!! Look at that itty bitty waist and those eyes! *WiPeS DrOoL* Does “America’s Got Talent” even air in Canada? How come I’ve never seen it on TV. Maybe I’m just blind or incredibly out of touch with my idiot box. I’m sure he’s lipsynching, but he’s got some videos of himself singing on his YouTube page here and I gotta say, it sounds pretty similar. Either way, I still thought I’ld share the hot version of Britney with the world. Derrick Barry everybody! Swoon~ ^^

My Tutor Friend 2 (2007). I wuvs it :D

I dunnae aboot you lot doncherknow, but I happen to think that albeit the lackness of continuationism to “My Tutor Friend” the first, this one’s pretty good on it’s own! The boy’s character really grows on you quite a bit and the girl isn’t as annoying as you would imagine a ditzy kawaii type to be. Tis all good and fun I’ld wager, true dat true dat.

A couple of the themes repeat themselves in the movie, but overall, a lot of things in it don’t happen the way you assume a predictable movie’s movie scene would happen. I said movie three times in the one sentence. That’s awfulness :S

You know that first Korean guy that she falls madly in love with, the hot one wif the hair. That kind of looks almost Japanese even. He is sexiness in pants. The End. Come watch! You will like it ever so muchly! :D

  • Starring: Park Ki-Woong, Lee Cheong-Ah
  • Description: A Japanese girl, Junko (Lee Cheong Ah) travels to Seoul as an exchange student in the hopes of seeing a Korean student she fell in love with while he was in Japan on exchange. The guesthouse she’s staying at is full of rowdy young guys, including the owner’s grating son Jong Man (Park Ki Woong) who also happens to be her Korean tutor. This disagreeable tutor, however, is a lot more interested in teaching her inappropriate words than conjugation. The two initially spend all their time fuming and feuding, but Junko slowly discovers there’s more to Jong Man under his insensitive exterior.

Tis goods I tells ya! Come Watch It Here me harties ARRR…gh.

My Tutor Friend (2003)

I absolutely love this movie!! It was the very, very first Korean movie I had ever seen in my life back in 2003 and the only reason why I started watching other Korean movies. I mean imagine if I had started out watching Oldboy. I don’t think I would have been that keen to watch anything else after that :P It’s a fantastic movie just makes me a feel a bit… vomitty… Ooh that’s a good word to remember.

SO! “My Tutor Friend”, was based on an online story, just like My Sassy Girl and is the work of then first time director Kim Kyeong-Hyeong. In fact, when it was released in 2003, it was supposed to be the sequel to My Sassy Girl. The world “sequel” being used loosely by the Korean movie industry as a whole I suppose, going by the fact that both movies aren’t connected in anyway character wise, the same way My Tutor Friend has nothing to do with My Tutor Friend 2, and The Vengeance Trilogy aren’t related. I guess there is a sort of similaritiness (you know I use so many made up words sometimes I really don’t remember if they’re real anymore… I doubt that one is x_X) between the movies in that they’re both romantic comedies, there’s a boy and a girl, and someone is always being mean to someone else. In this case, the girl isn’t a scary psycho and the guy is the meanie.

This movie is unbelievably cute, and very Korean!! A lot of “you want to die?!” and glaring and sneering and beautiful people with amazing bodies (omg Kwon Sang Woo I fangirl you ^^) as well as the trademark Korean playing-with-time-and-space-continuum thing. I dunno aboot you, but I totally highly recommend this shiat :D

  • Genre: Romance, Comedy
  • Starring: Kim Ha Neul, Kwon Sang-Woo, Kim Ki-Woo, Kong Yu
  • Description: A boy from a wealthy family who should be in his second year of college, is still finishing his highschool requirements. His family hire a tutor for him who is his own age but she comes from a poor background.

Joint Security Area (2000) vs. Joint Security America (2008)

I know this looks like it’s turning into a theme, but every time I feel like posting up a foreign film (all Korean so far, I know, but it just happens to be my current obsession XD) there always seems to be a Hollywood remake lurking around the corner. So, I end up posting both so everyone can have a looksie.

Today’s post has to do with the UNBELIEVABLY ENGAGING and all round SUPER EXCITING HEART WRENCHINGISH movie Joint Security Area or JSA. I just watched this last night and almost wish I didn’t because it’s so good and now I can’t watch anything else for a while until I get over the deep and meaningful sensitivitiness and emotionalism of this one. *SniFFLe*

Anyhoo, so the movie takes place in the Demilitiarized Zone of Communist North Korea and Capitalist South Korea. It all starts one night, when two North Korean soldiers are murdered out of the blue, causing the promise of serious conflict to erupt from the already dangerously frail relationships between the two Koreas.

To avoid such an event, a special investigation is led by Swedish and Swiss investigators from the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission. The mission is led by Major Sophie E. Jean (That’s her in the middle), and she must question the survivors of the shooting incident Sgt. Lee Soo-Hyeok (Hottie on the left) and Sgt. Oh Kyeong-Pil (Old guy on the right, but he gets really super cool in the movie) to figure out what actually happened that night. What she discovers while unraveling the mystery gets curiouser and curiouser…

Super Cool movie! A million stars all round darnit! This movie was the highest grossing in Korean history by 2001 and Hollywood is supposedly filming a remake to be released sometime this year (2008) called Joint Security America and directed by David Franzoni. I believe they will be using the same plot but this one will be shot at the American-Mexican border. “A female Spanish army officer is sent by the U.N. to investigate a bloody encounter between U.S. Marines and Mexican Special Forces” Yup yup, preeeeety similar. I’ll be interested to see how they make it work as well as the original though, seeing as people cross over the border everyday:

Whereas pretty much no one is allowed to cross over the Bridge of No Return.

Still, there will always be a market for remakes. I doubt just any American or Western person in general would go rummaging through random Asian movies to find a good one. Although there will be a lot of general groaning and moaning from the fans of the original movie, I say if it helps to promote it to a wider audience then it’s alllllll good :D (Provided people realize where the original came from and don’t assume the rip-off happened the other way round -_-;)

Some Random Pretty Cool Trivia. Did you know…

  • This is another little gem by director Park Chan-Wook, the genius that brought us Oldboy. This came first though ^^
  • The Village of Panmunjeom (The Joint Security Area) was recreated for the movie in excess of some $800,000 since shooting at the actual site would of course never be permitted.
  • The DVD of this movie was given to North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-II by South Korea’s President Roh Moo-Hyun during the Korean summit in October 2007. (I wonder what he thought of it. Probably hated it since it showed being-kind-to-each-otherness -_-)
  • Although the movie was a huge hit with the public, It wasn’t so with the Korean army. Twenty older members of the JSA Veterans’ Association stormed into the office of Myung Film demanding that the production company issue a public apology to the army and insert notices at the beginning and end of the movie stating that it is a work of fiction. After four hours, the employees of Myung Film acquiesced, and despite vocal objection from the film industry, the group’s demands are being met.

Anyway…

Come watch JOINT SECURITY AREA here!!

The Korean original with English subtitles of course. The American version hasn’t come out yet. When it does, check back here ;) Enjoy!
